ECOLINE – uncompromising lower carbon glass

To develop this pane, all production processes were reconsidered – from material selection to energy use. This level of detail has lowered the carbon footprint of the glass by maximising resources and minimising energy consumption wherever possible.

Rethinking the production process

The main difference between ECOLINE and standard glass lies in how the panes are made. ECOLINE is manufactured through an energy-efficient process that uses locally sourced raw materials, cutting down on transport requirements. Furthermore, when the raw materials are melted, the process is powered by green electricity instead of gas, which makes a significant difference to overall emissions. At the same time, a high proportion of recycled glass is used – glass that would otherwise have ended up as waste.

The combination of shorter transport distances, reduced resource consumption and renewable energy results in a glass pane with a substantially lower CO₂ footprint – without affecting insulation, durability or clarity.

Once the glass is manufactured, it is assembled in three layers with insulating argon between each layer. Then the unit is sealed, and it becomes an energy-efficient triple-glazed unit – ready to be installed in a Rationel window. ECOLINE glass is available for Rationel’s wood/alu platform AURAPLUS and FORMAPLUS and supported by an Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) for documentation.
